A little more.

Design is the method of putting form and content together.
Design, just as art, has multiple definitions; there is no single definition.
Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics.
Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.
— Paul Rand

The route of becoming a visual designer was not an obvious one for me. As a child, drawing/coloring and arts and crafts was a favorite pastime, and although in high school I was very successful in graphic arts and photography classes, I never saw this as a potential career. Instead, I started college hoping to become a dental hygienist.

I worked towards this goal for 2+ years taking all of the pre-requisite classes, and when ready I applied to dental hygiene school and anxiously awaited the decision letter. It arrived with the dreaded “not this time, please try again”. Deep down I knew where my heart was, where my passion lived, and so I applied to art school. I got accepted, and the rest is history!

I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason, on their own time, not our time. A “no” may sometimes feel like a closed door, but I believe that it’s life telling you that there’s a new open door that is bigger and better for you elsewhere.

I realized that the “no” in my acceptance letter has actually lead me to a very fulfilling career, one in which I truly love! I am grateful that my day to day allows me to create, collaborate and problem solve.

I look forward to hearing from you!
